Wood-Mizer, a leading manufacturer of portable sawmills, is among four finalists for the National Hardwood Lumber Association’s 2002 Forestry Stewardship Award. Wood-Mizer was recognized as a finalist at the NHLA convention recently. The four finalists were selected from among 2,000 member companies.
Wood-Mizer was selected for its efforts to conserve forest resources through the pioneering of thin-kerf bandsaw technology, which conserves one-third of the logs used in other wood-cutting processes.
Wood-Mizer also promotes reforestation through its conservation initiatives, such as providing seedlings to sawmill customers. The company also developed a forestry curriculum and holds frequent seminars on responsible use of forest resources and woodlot management.
