U Said It

Michael Doyle is president of The Pallet Factory, a pallet recycling and manufacturer headquartered in Memphis, Tenn. with three plants located throughout the Mid-South.

Pallet Enterprise: What is the hardest challenge your company faces right now?

Doyle: Staying on top in these hard times – finding ways to better our company, to compete, provide more services and be a low-cost producer. Our industry is in a struggle and it takes a full 100% effort on everyone’s part to face the challenge.

Pallet Enterprise: What is the best piece of business advice that you have ever received?

Doyle: Kemmons Wilson, founder of the Holiday Inn hotel chain, once told me, “There’s two ways to get to the top of an oak tree. You can plant an acorn and sit on it and wait for it to grow. Or you can get to work and climb it and get to the top.”

Pallet Enterprise: What is the best part of working in this industry?

Doyle: Every day is a new day and a new challenge. Meeting those challenges and finding solutions is very rewarding as is working with my peers and my colleagues to harness the power of our industry.

Pallet Enterprise: If you could do anything else in life, what would it be?

Doyle: I would work with homeless men and women; helping needy men and women get a chance to build a new life through recovery programs and intact family programs to get back on their feet.
