Tom Waechter, a Machinery Pioneer Passes Away

Many pallet manufacturers have known Tom Waechter over the years. Waechter passed away from cancer on March 2, 2014 at his residence. Born on December 21, 1949 in Batesville, Ind., he married Susan Osburn on May 24, 1969. Tom was a self-employed design engineer before retiring and was a member of the men’s group at the Vineyard Community Church in Batesville.

In addition to running his own machinery manufacturing company, Waechter worked with a number of different machinery manufacturing companies. More recently he has worked for Ken Hess at Smart Products in the area of machine design.

Waechter is known for his innovative design of pallet saws. Our staff remembers Waechter for demonstrating in the 1980s one of the first horizontal bandsaw pallet saws at a forest products machinery show.
