Getting saw blades to its pallet recycling customers fast so that their cutting lines can keep moving is a top priority at Saw Service & Supply based in Cleveland, Ohio. The company specializes in delivering custom-length band saw blades for pallet dismantling equipment, custom-built circular nail cutting blades, and a cost effective line of disposable circular saw blades.
“Our business is all about getting the order shipped to the customer today so it gets there on time. That’s our number one priority,” said Gary Snyder, the company’s vice president. “That’s a real focus of our company because without our customers, we wouldn’t be in business, and being in a central location enables us to deliver to our customers fast.”
The business caters to the pallet recycling market – businesses that are returning pallets into the marketplace they repair, sell or scrap into mulch.
“Without supplies that we distribute, they cannot recycle and repair a pallet. It’s extremely important that they’re able to dismantle and repair. Our focus is getting saw blades to them so they can be productive.”
“When they repair it, they have to remove the deck-boards or stringers and replace with reclaimed pallet lumber. We sell the saw blades that enable our customers to dismantle pallets and reclaim the pallet components” said Snyder.
In its on-site weld center, Saw Service & Supply manufactures custom-length band saw blades and ships the same day the order is placed. The band saw blade coil stock is purchased from the M.K. Morse Company in Canton, Ohio. “Our weld center has five top-of-the-line band saw blade welders,” said Snyder. “We build inventory of common lengths and stock them, but if someone wants an odd length, we can make it and ship the same day.”
Besides its band saw dismantling blades, “we are the innovators of the Disposable Circular Saw Blades in the industry,” said Snyder. Saw Service introduced the disposable line in 1997. “Our customers were spending $50 for a 10-inch blade back then. We introduced a high quality 10-inch disposable blade for only $10 each that year. This program and line is extremely popular and very cost effective.”
Saw Service & Supply offers the disposable circular saw blades from 7-1/4-inch in diameter up to 14 inches. “You can buy a very inexpensive blade and run it for a couple days or a week and you scrap it,” said Snyder, explaining that a lot of businesses prefer disposable blades over high-end blades that need frequent sharpening.
Saw Service & Supply also stocks many other items a pallet recycler might need. These include safety items such as gloves, safety glasses, earplugs, vests, hard hats, back braces, and marking devices such as lumber crayons or spray paint.
“We supply both large and small customers throughout the U.S. A very typical customer is an entrepreneur who is managing the business and production, may be driving the truck down the road to deliver and is also the one buying his production supplies,” he said. “That customer can call us today and depending upon where he is located, can have it delivered to his front door in a day or two.”
“Our business is all about developing a long term partnership with our customer, getting the order shipped and providing the very best possible service,” said Snyder.
