After 53 years at the helm of Sellick Equipment Limited, co-founders Howard and David Sellick have decided to retire. The company remains committed to its many customers in North America including those in the pallet and lumber sectors.
Howard and David co-founded the company with their late father Walter Sellick in 1968.
They began by converting a Ford 4500 industrial tractor into a 6,000 lb. forklift for outdoor use. Today, the Harrow, Ontario-based company is a world leader in the rough terrain forklift market. It manufactures a full range of rough terrain and truck mounted forklifts. The business will be led moving forward by a third generation of the family with Colin Sellick’s promotion to president.
Sellick’s experienced engineering, sales and service staff remain in place to continue supporting its extensive dealer network. Currently, there are over 11,000 Sellick built machines in the field which are serviced by an extensive North American dealer network consisting of 230 locations.
From simple tractor conversions in the early 1970s, growth for Sellick Equipment escalated with the development of the integral one-piece frame. The design could accommodate various industrial power trains which lead to brand manufacturing for John Deere and International Harvester. The company built an extensive dealership network and was acquired by Avis Industrial Corporation of Upland, Indiana in the 1990s. In recent years, a new generation of forklifts was introduced featuring enhanced ergonomics, environment friendly diesel engines, increased lift capacities, and a broad range of models.
Gregory King, president and CEO of Avis Industrial Corp, commented “We are grateful for Howard and David’s leadership and contributions to not only the organization but the industry. We look forward to the continued growth and expanded offerings of the Sellick line of equipment.”
