Pallet companies that want to take their pallet and unit load design expertise to the next level should consider attending one of the short courses offered by the Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design at Virginia Tech. The next Unit Load Design Short Course is scheduled for May 13-15, 2014 in Blacksburg, Va. at the Thomas M. Brooks Forest Products Center.
The short course is an excellent way to learn about the interaction between the components of unit loads. The course covers design techniques that pallet users and manufacturers could use to help the clients save money on corrugated board and plastic packaging materials by redesigning the pallets. With this knowledge the pallet manufacturers can offer cost savings to their customers without competing on only the price of the pallet.
The short course is specifically recommended to wooden pallet suppliers and sales professionals, professionals responsible for pallet purchases, and to packaging engineers working with unit loads.
The short course will focus on the following topics:
• Effective and sustainable design of corrugated containers
• Pallet design and performance
• Fundamentals of interactions between packages and pallets
• Fundamentals of interactions between material handling equipment and pallets
• Principles of system-based design
• Virtual unit load design and sustainability analysis using Best Load®
