Idea Box: A.I. May Supercharge Software

Managing project development and workflow at a company can be a very time-consuming task. A recent article by Inc. magazine covered how companies are integrating assistants powered by Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) to simplify complicated operations. A.I. may provide novice users with access to advanced tools originally designed for experts.

One workplace software provider, Monday.com, has introduced an A.I. assistant to plan and organize projects, develop custom workflows and track employee workloads. It is planning to integrate an A.I. assistant into its platform via a free update powered by four new tools.

One tool would automate the generation of work tasks. Users will be able to create detailed project plans by describing what tasks need to be done in regular language. In a demonstration video that was shown to Inc., a user requests the A.I. assistant to create a list of all the tasks required to design a website, from preliminary sketches to handoff. The A.I. assistant created the new tasks, including early sketches, design review, final design and usability testing.

A sales tool automates the writing and rewriting of marketing emails. The demonstration video showed a user tasking the A.I. assistant with drafting an email to introduce a new product. The A.I. assistant quickly creates the marketing message, complete with relevant data and statistics.

Monday’s A.I. assistant can analyze documents and create brief summaries of key information. The demonstration video showed a user summarizing meeting notes into a few bullet points.

Another tool, which Monday plans to release in the future, enables users to create formulas with ordinary language prompts. The demonstration video showed a user asking the A.I. assistant to help create a formula to calculate the total estimated hours for a group of tasks to be completed.

Monday will also open up the platform for third-party developers to build A.I.-powered applications for more specific tasks. The applications will be able to be implemented by other users via the monday.com marketplace.

In related news, Microsoft recently announced the launch of its own A.I. assistant, Copilot, which works across the 365 suite of apps. By using data from the entire suite, Copilot can develop some very helpful analytics and reports. For example, a manager could ask Copilot to “tell my team how we updated project strategy,” and the chatbot will automatically generate a status update based on the meetings, emails and chat threads.

A.I. assistants have the potential to unlock new levels of software functionality. Staying on top of what your software can do can improve your operations based on the data and information you already have.
