Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design Short Courses

The Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design is offering two good short courses this fall. They are ideal for professionals in the pallet and packaging industries as well as material handling equipment suppliers and users of pallets and material handling equipment. Anybody who functions as a material handling and unit load management

professional needs to keep up with the rapid changes taking place in their industry. Virginia Tech has always functioned as an educational source of information for those who want to stay informed.

The short courses being offered this fall are a Unit Load Design Short Course on September 25-27 and a Wood Pallet Design and Performance Short Course on November 6-7. Both courses are being taught at the Thomas M. Brooks Forest Products Center in Blacksburg, Va. Both courses are being sponsored by the Pallet Enterprise, White and Company, the Material Handling Industry of America and International Safe Transit Association.

The Unit Load Design Short Course will present principles of unit load design, packaging design and material handling systems. This includes interactions between material handling equipment, packaging, and pallets; diagnosing and solving material handling problems; stringer class pallet design using Best Load ®; and a laboratory tour. The course will be taught by Dr. Mark White. The registration deadline is September 5.

The Wood Pallet Design and Performance Short Course will present the effect of pallet design and selection on materials handling costs. This includes fundamentals of new and remanufactured stringer class pallet design, designing block class pallets, and designing stringer class pallets using Best Load ®. The course will be taught by Dr. Mark White. The registration deadline is October 10.
