CENTRAL CITY, KY—BREWCO, Inc., one of the best known names in the sawmill manufacturing industry recently announced that it is under new management as of October 1, 2010. Former owner Clarence Brewer, Jr. (known as Jr.) sold the company to a group of his loyal employees and longtime friend and CPA, Mike Goldston. Jr. said “The transfer of ownership to such a diverse management team will enable BREWCO to continue to lead the industry in high performance sawmill equipment.
Before BREWCO’s inception, Clarence Brewer, Sr. founded Brewer Inc. and began manufacturing pallet mill equipment in the late 1960’s. In 1978 he sold that company and founded BREWCO Collision Repair Systems, which manufactured collision repair equipment for the automotive industry. In 1991, Sr. founded BREWCO, Inc. and perfected his band resaw for use in the pallet industry. BREWCO quickly became a leading supplier of resaws in the pallet industry. In 2000, Sr. sold BREWCO to his son Jr., and began his retirement. After ten years of operating BREWCO and growing the company into a leading manufacturer of resaws for the grade and stave markets as well as maintaining a premier position in the pallet industry, Jr. decided to focus his attention on the banking industry; Jr. is now the successful owner of several banks in the Western Kentucky area.
The new owner-management team at BREWCO consists of: Vice President Bill Hendrix, who has 10 years experience in mill design and marketing; production manager Stan Spence, with over 20 years experience in manufacturing and supervision; and Sales Manager David Piper, with over 40 years of sawmill experience as well as sawmill equipment manufacturing. In addition to these capable men, the newcomer is Mike Goldston, President. Mike has over 20 years experience as a CPA and recently has spent the last couple of years consulting in both the banking and coal industries. Rounding-out the management team is Clarence Brewer, Sr., who recently came out of retirement to oversee the research and development team.
Mike stated “Our high quality products have a proven track record in both the sawmill and pallet industries. Our management team has a unique mixture of hand’s-on sawmill experience with both Mr. Brewer and Mr. Piper, extensive production experience with Stan Spence, and technological as well as marketing expertise with Bill Hendrix. My responsibilities are made easy by my association with such a talented group and the fact that we are in a sound financial position.”
With Mr. Brewer Sr.’s widely-recognized name and the fact that he founded and eventually sold-off Brewer Inc. over 25 years ago, there is sometimes still some confusion between our company BREWCO and previously-owned Brewer Inc. BREWCO is poised for growth and with our recent breakthrough discoveries in sawing technique, remains a strong and widely recognized leader in both the sawmill and pallet industries.
