Annual Pallet and Unit Load Design Short Course Offered

Are you looking to improve the skill level of your sales, management and pallet design staff? Consider attending the “Pallet and Unit Load Design” short course offered by White & Company LLC at the Inn at Virginia Tech from September 24th – 26th, 2024.

Come hear from the expert who developed the concept of systems-based unit load design. Dr. Marshall (Mark) White, Ph.D., the former director of the Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design and professor emeritus at Virginia Tech, will lead the instruction as well as an interactive Q&A  period.

Unit Load Design is a revolutionary, system-based design approach that significantly reduces the cost of distributing products to consumers by understanding how pallets, packaged products, and handling equipment, mechanically interact. Unit Load Design is a new and valuable service that pallet, packaging, and handling equipment suppliers can offer their customers. Any manufacturers and suppliers, as well as the users of these components, will benefit from attending this short course. This intensive two and a half day short course will teach techniques that pallet and packaging designers can use to reduce the cost of corrugated board and plastic packaging materials when designing pallets and packaging systems by considering the interactions between all of the components of unit loads.

The course will use state-of-the-art software, Best Load™ and Best Pallet™, to demonstrate the steps of pallet and unit load design optimization and structural analysis. A tour of the Virginia Tech Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design is also included.

Major topics covered include the basics of wood science, pallet classification, pallet design primer, the effect of wood on pallet performance, pallet durability parameters and fasteners, warehouse support conditions and pallet performance, basics of materials handling systems, principles of unit load design and packaging design, and much more.

The lead instructor is Dr. Marshall (Mark) White. He will be joined by his son, Braden White, the executive director of White & Company LLC, who is an expert in using the software.

The cost is $650 per attendee including lunch on 9/24 and 9/25 and coffee/refreshments throughout the course. Register by emailing bwhite@whiteandcompany.net
