Why should you care about the environmental performance of wood pallets? How can the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for wood pallets help you? Why do your customers care about sustainability? These questions and more are covered in a new EPD explainer video produced by Nature’s Packaging, an educational and outreach campaign funded by the wood pallet sector in the United States.
This video explains the critical role that pallets play in the supply chain.
It also reviews why the sustainable performance of pallets matters and how the EPD helps pallet companies communicate with customers. Visit https://tinyurl.com/4uwt7j9w to watch the video.
What can you do with this video? Its closing suggestion is to “Know the EPD, promote your impact, spread the word.” Smart pallet companies are tapping key individuals in their organization to learn more about the wood pallet EDP as well as evaluate their performance against industry standards. To find out more, visit https://tinyurl.com/2tfj6nfe.
Once you select someone to lead your effort, this person will need to analyze your current status when it comes to key issues evaluated by the EPD. If you participated in the EPD process, hopefully you have the results of your own analysis. You can compare your performance with the general industry standard.
If you perform better than industry averages, you can trumpet your success via your company’s marketing and outreach vehicles. This includes your website, email footers, e-mail campaigns, social media presence, etc. If you did worse than industry averages, you have now identified areas that you can work on to improve your sustainability score. Regardless of the results, you can use the EPD to develop future goals for improving environmental performance.
The last key area of the EPD campaign is to spread the word. Some pallet companies have issued press releases that highlight the industry research as well as their own performance. The best press release we have found on this topic was published in 2020 by Pallet Consultants, a major recycler serving the Southeast. You can see the press release online by visiting https://tinyurl.com/y8u3sesb.
