Thinking Ahead?Letter from Chaille: More Than Just a Facelift ? Pallet Enterprise Launches New Departments and Design Features

The world keeps on moving at a faster pace and the staff behind Pallet Enterprise knows that our readers struggle to keep up. Pallet and lumber companies keep on doing more and more with less and less. If anybody knows how to cut costs, streamline operations and respond to extreme price pressures, it’s pallet and lumber companies. As a result, you don’t have as much time for reading even though you need to keep up with critical information.

That’s why the Pallet Enterprise staff has redesigned the magazine to make it easier for readers.   We are adding some new departments and columns starting with the September issue. We will roll out a variety of new editorial features over the next six months. A few of these will provide advertisers extra opportunities to be covered in the pages of Pallet Enterprise.

The primary objectives of the redesign are the following:

                              • Make the magazine quicker and easier to read.

                              • Offer more marketing opportunities for advertisers.

                              • Focus more on machinery and used equipment information.

                              • Cover more editorial topics.

                              • Add more visual elements to the content of each issue.

                              • Tie-in content better with video, audio and online resources.

So here’s the new editorial departments we are adding to the magazine.

“Problem Solvers” cover a unique challenge that a supplier tackled to help a pallet or lumber company achieve higher production, better or safer operations.   If you are looking for bright ideas to improve your operation, look no further. An “Auction Calendar” will keep you updated on opportunities to snag up used machinery bargains. And “Supplier Spotlight” will cover and help you identify the leading suppliers in the industry.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, this new monthly department hits the target. “Coming into Focus” is an image or video that conveys a central trend, driver, demographic reality or issue that is currently impacting the pallet and low-grade lumber world. “Idea Box” lists strategies to boost productivity, deal with employee concerns or improve overall business operations. “New Directions” describes innovations and ideas from other industries and expertise that could help develop new business segments or services. If you want to find out what is next, look here.

Many people tell us how much they love Dr. Ed Brindley’s wit and wisdom. And he loves to rant about the past and what it teaches us to better handle the future. “Edisms” is nostalgic commentary from Ed about the past and an anecdotal suggestion based on his experience.

“Evergreen” is a bimonthly column by a group of leading industry voices on sustainability, green or environmental issues affecting the pallet and forest products industry. “TechNovation” is an occasional feature on technology and innovation from computers and software to other developments for small business, including some developed specifically for the industry. The “Must Reads” section reviews top business books including key business improvement takeaways.

“Transport Watch: is a bimonthly trucking and transportation column on the latest news and issues affecting trucks and transportation, which increasingly has become a key area of concern for pallet and lumber companies. “Safety Check is a safety and OSHA regulations column.

“Smart Quotes” highlights the top quotes or statements from the current issue. If you want to read the most compelling statements from the current issue, go here first. “U Said It” is the last piece of editorial in each magazine. We ask some key questions from one industry leader, and report the answers.

And of course, the Pallet Enterprise will continue to carry “Back to Basics” by Clarence Leising , “Market Update” by Jeff McBee and “Markets in Transition” by Rick LeBlanc.   Also, we will run plant features, news articles, new product announcements, classifieds and other editorial offerings that you are accustomed to reading. Some of these new departments and columns will appear in every issue. Others will run occasionally or as needed.

One thing we will not be is static. This redesign is part of a focus on forward momentum to respond to reader and advertiser needs. Please let us know how we are doing and ways that we can improve. We want to hear from you.

While we publish the Pallet Enterprise, we never forget that it is your magazine. You make it worth all the effort.

Please thank the advertisers and suppliers who make every issue possible. By letting them know how you much value the Enterprise and the fact that you saw them in it, we will be able to continue to bring you the latest innovations and ideas for years to come.
