Big Buck Contest Adds Youth Winner

Industrial Reporting Inc., which publishes Pallet Enterprise and TimberLine, once again will sponsor its third annual big buck photo contest for the 2005-06 hunting season.

Many people who work in the forest products industry enjoy the outdoors, including hunting. Even though not all of us work in the woods, we have a vested interest in natural resources, and some particularly enjoy hunting.

In a change this year, the company is adding a new youth level category of eligible winners.

Industrial Reporting will award a $100 gift certificate for Bass Pro Shops to the hunter who submits a photograph of a buck with the biggest antlers. The contest is open to hunters in North America.

The two age categories are hunters 18 years and younger and those over 18. One winner will be chosen from each category, and each winner will receive a $100 gift certificate.

The criteria for the contest will be the photo itself. The contest will not take into consideration any measurements or sizes of particular attributes of the antlers, such as spread, height, thickness at base, and so on. Nor will it rely on any recognized scoring system, such as Boone & Crockett.

The winning big buck will be based solely on the size of the antlers as shown in the photograph. The only stipulation is that the antlers must have a minimum of eight points – and all visible in the photograph.

This contest is open only to subscribers of TimberLine or Pallet Enterprise, the employees who work for their business, and children of a subscriber or an employee.

Rules are as follows:

1. Deer must be killed by legal means during the 2005-06 hunting season.

2. Hunter must furnish proof of date of kill, such as copy of game check tag, photograph date, etc.

3. Deer may be taken by bow, black power gun, rifle or shotgun.

4. Photo must show antlers while still attached to deer.

5. Winning photo will be determined by managers of Industrial Reporting, and their decision will be final.

We must receive your photo by Jan. 15, 2006.

Depending on the number of entries, Industrial Reporting may recognize honorable mentions by publishing them in the magazine.

To enter the contest, send photo along with your name, age, address and a phone number to Hunting Contest, Pallet Enterprise, 10244 Timber Ridge Dr., Ashland, Va. 23005. We may call you to obtain details about your kill to publish in an article announcing the winner(s). Photos will NOT be returned.

Winners will be announced in the March issues of TimberLine and Pallet Enterprise.

The winner of the contest for the 2004-05 hunting season was Bob Hixson of Carrizo Springs, Tex., who submitted a photograph of an 18-point buck he killed on his ranch. Bob is the owner of Hixson Lumber Sales, which has operations in Texas, Arkansas and Illinois.

Have a happy and safe hunting season!
