AMS Offers New Mold Treatment
Automated Machine Systems introduced a new product for preventing mold on pallets and lumber that it is distributing to the pallet industry.
The E-Fusion wood protection process applies a polymeric coating that forms a tough mold- and mildew-resistant coating on the wood surface. It uses electrostatic properties to bind the coating to the surface of the wood. Essentially, the coating is negatively charged, and wood is positively charged, so the coating is attracted to the wood surface much like a magnet attracts ferrous metal.
E-Fusion can be applied with a manual sprayer or an automated system. It takes about five seconds to treat a pallet.
E-Fusion is available in concentrated form and also as a ready-to-use product.
Manual and automated spray systems can be provided, and, depending on volume, the sprayers may be supplied for free.

AWMV Offers New Saw-Carriage System
AWMV Industrial Products, a division of Wood-Mizer Products, has several new machines for the pallet and sawmill industries.
The AWMV 4250 SCH is a complete head rig – a vertical band mill with carriage system. Unlike traditional head rigs, however, the carriage is stationary. The thin-kerf bandsaw, on a 17-degree slant, moves back and forth on rails to cut the log. The carriage is built by Cleereman Manufacturing.
The AWMV 4250 SCH can cut logs from 8-48 inches in diameter and up to 18 feet long; length can be extended to 36 feet. Feed rate is 300 feet per minute.
The band mill has 42-inch wheels and runs 38-50 mm-wide thin-kerf blades that are easily and economically maintained. The saw head is moved with a standard cable-drum system that only requires a 20 hp drive unit.
The AWMV 4250 SCH can reduce kerf, power consumption and cost, and blade and blade maintenance costs. Reduced operating costs and higher yields can improve profits.
“It can run as the primary head rig, a grade saw, a long log saw, or as a supplement to a breakdown line,” said Kevin Corder, vice president of AWMV.
The vertical band mill is also available as a stationary model, the 4250VH, for integration into existing moving carriage mills to upgrade circle saws or bandsaws.

Baker Brings Out New Board Stacker
Baker Products has introduced a new automated board stacking system. The complete system accumulates boards, stacks them on a pallet, and discharges the loaded pallet onto dead rollers for forklift pick-up.
The automated board accumulator accepts boards one at a time and transports them via chain conveyor across a programmable counter. Small stacks of boards are transported onto the board stacker accumulation area to form a row.
When a row of boards is completed, the system picks up the row and moves it onto the waiting pallet. Hopper-fed cross members can be programmed to automatically divide the rows to a specified height or board count.
With the optional pallet de-stacker and auto pallet loader, a loaded pallet is discharged automatically onto the dead rollers, and another pallet is automatically staged to keep continuously stacking more boards.
The Baker automated board stacker can handle boards from 28 inches to 60 inches long, ¾-inch to 4 inches thick and from 3-1/2 to 6 inches wide.

Brewco Offers New Single-Arbor Gang Edger
Brewco has developed a new single-arbor gang edger with a system that automatically removes the waste edging material.
It can edge material from 3-1/2 inches to 24 inches wide and from ½-inch to 1-1/2 inches thick. The machine can edge material at a speed of 150 feet per minute.
The new Brewco gang edger is powered by a 75 hp motor and features a 20 hp self-contained hydraulic unit and laser light guides.
Edged boards are elevated at the outfeed onto a takeaway belt, and the waste edging strips move unobstructed onto a waste belt. A sensor system automatically determines how many good boards are produced, and the material ‘fingers’ elevate into position, which allows lumber to go to a takeaway belt and waste to go to a scrap conveyor.

Brewer Introduces ‘Gang of Tomorrow’
Brewer Inc.-Golden Eagle introduced its newest gang saw, the ‘gang of tomorrow.’ It is an evolution of the company’s popular Golden Eagle gang saw.
An important feature of the new gang saw is that all the top rolls travel with the flow of the wood, and they have more travel to accommodate under-size wood. All rolls are 5 inches in diameter and have bearings and sprockets on the outside of the machine for easy access.
Similarly, all arbor bearings are outside the saw chamber, free from dust and easily accessible for maintenance.

Cooper Has New Overhead Scragg
Cooper Machine Co. has developed a new end-dogging, overhead scragg mill. It features three-dimensional laser scanners, log pre-positioners and twin horizontal edgers.
The new scragg mill is designed to process logs that are 36-60 inches long. The lasers scan the logs, and a computer sets the cutting profile. High-speed positioners skew the logs for maximum yield.
One pass through the twin horizontal edgers produces three-sided slabs for easy recovery. Finished four-sided cants cut by the twin 48-inch circular saws range in size from 3-1/2×3-1/2 to 16×16.
An optional slat table or belt carries the three-sided slabs to a recovery system.

Lane Unveils New Horizontal Grinder
Lane Recycling Machinery has introduced a new horizontal grinder, model HZV52.
The model HZV52 grinder is equipped with a 52-inch-wide hammermill and can grind wood material up to 18 inches in diameter, including slabs, logs or limbs and more. Production is up to 200 cubic yards of grindings per hour, according to the company.
The Lane HZV52 grinder is powered by a 300 hp engine, a choice of Caterpillar, John Deere or Cummins. More powerful engines are optional.
The grinder features a fluid coupler, which means no clutch plates, torque limiter or wear parts. If the hammermill jams or stops, the fluid coupler shuts down immediately automatically, protecting the hammermill and the drive belt. After the hammermill is cleared, the fluid coupler is reset to resume grinding.
The hammermill can be changed from fixed to swing hammers in less than 45 minutes.
Infeed is by a 44-inch-diameter hydraulically driven infeed wheel and drag chain infeed conveyor, which adjust automatically according to the hammermill load.
The Lane HZV52 grinder is available as a trailer-mounted machine and a track-drive machine.

Vertical Printer Labels 4,000 Pallets Per Shift
McCoin Enterprises has developed a vertical laser printer for the pallet industry. The Super-Mark-It uses CO2 laser technology to print images on a stack of pallets. The printer can be used to apply heat-treating stamps, company names, logos and other text or graphics.
The Super-Mark-It can print images on up to 4,000 pallets per shift, according to the manufacturer, and can apply multiple images on both sides of the pallet simultaneously. It is virtually maintenance-free and can be operated by a forklift driver.
The Super-Mark-It can label new pallets, recycled pallets, and block, flush and wing pallets.
Operation is by a user-friendly touch screen control panel. A stop limit switch sets pallet length, and a hand crank adjusts for wing pallets.

The company developed the new WCP-90PN pallet nailer to provide more robust performance over the WCP-90. It provides an alternative to the heavier WCP-100 series nailer.

New Viking Machine Uses Collated Nails
Viking has developed a new automated pallet assembly system, the Gemini. The machine can nail two standard pallets at the same time or assemble one over-size pallet – with decking up to 12 feet long — at a time. It is the first system by Viking to use collated nails.
The Gemini features a single nailing head or station. After the system nails the top face of two standard pallets or a single wide pallet, the pallet(s) is flipped automatically in order to nail the top deck.
The Gemini is equipped with industrial pneumatic nailing tools, which enables it to ‘nail on the fly,’ and uses high-load coil nails – up to 3,000 nails per coil. Each tool will nail only when a deck board is present. In addition, if a board is bowed, the machine will nail about ¾-inch from the edge, not into the stringer.
The system features fast mechanical set-up, smooth material feeding, and motorized adjustment at the hydraulic stacker. A slate conveyor moves finished pallets or skids at the outfeed.
The Gemini requires only one operator when assembling single wide pallets and two operators when assembling two standard pallets at a time. The controls feature an easy-to-read touch screen control with English and Spanish interface. The system can store up to 40 pallet configurations in its memory.
The Gemini can assemble standard pallets and skids with two, three or four stringers and wide pallets with up to eight stringers.
