Known by many in the industry as “The Ambassador of Good Will,” Penn Cooper, a long-time industry salesman and buyer, recently passed away at his home in Kempton, Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 8.
Through his career, Penn Cooper worked for SPEC Wood Inc., John Rock Inc., Remmey – The Pallet Company and a number of other pallet industry businesses. Penn was usually smiling, known for his humor and tendency to tell a good story. He worked in sales, management and even lumber buying throughout his career.
René Harpin of SPEC Wood commented, “Penn had a big heart. He cared deeply for his family, his church, his friends and everyone around him. We used to call him ‘The Ambassador of Good Will’ because kindness simply radiated from him. He was special to us — a true Rock , steady, loyal and a force of nature, larger than life in the best possible way. I miss you, Mr. Ambassador.”
Bill MacCauley, another employer and long-time industry friend, said, “Penn was a true gentleman with a giant heart. He was a loyal husband and family man who always wanted to do the right thing. He was devoted to his church and loved helping the Boy Scouts. He had a jolly laugh that was larger than life.”
Penn was the widower of the late Leesa V. (Kloc) Cooper, who passed away on February 15, 2025. Penn and Leesa were married for more than 42 years. Penn is survived by his sons, P. Torrey (Kathrine) Cooper, Jr. of Kempton, and Brett Ryle Cooper of Kempton, PA; daughters, Elizabeth Violet Cooper of Kempton, and Emily Ann Cooper, fiancée of Ryan Virkutis of Pottsville; four grandchildren; brothers, Garth (Bronwyn) Cooper of Bryn Athyn, and Glen (fiancée, Elisa) Cooper of Elverson, PA; several nieces and nephews.
